BLAIRGOWRIE VETS GATHERING

Twenty members from East Vets went up to Blairgowrie to participate in the various competitions run by SVLGA for Vets from all Divisions across Scotland.  This year the overall Scottish Vets Champion will not be decided until the following weekend where the East will be represented by our Champion Karen Ballantyne at  Strathmore  GC
- best of luck Karen!

Blairgowrie itself and both championship courses were looking lovely as you would expect with the Junior Ryder Cup only a week away. Rosemount and Lansdowne were in great condition with very true greens ( assuming you read the subtle and not so subtle borrows correctly!).  Unfortunately, the weather was not as kind as the previous year and many competitors got quite a soaking especially during the Patrick Rosebowl over Rosemount on the Monday or if you were brave or foolish enough as your Vice Captain and friends to go out over the wee course in the 5-Club competition in "persistent" rain.

As ever, a great time was enjoyed by all and there were some individual successes by East Vets players which are noted below.  In the team category for the Lyon Trophy, East were narrowly pipped by the West with countback going down to the last six holes. The West also had the overall winner of the Patrick Rosebowl : their Vice Captain Marion Stewart who had a net 71 and is pictured below receiving her prize from Gillian Kirkwood.

East Vets ladies who are to be congratulated are Kate Johnston who was Runner Up in both the Patrick Rosebowl and in the Buchanan Cup.  Second place in the Rosebowl wins the Smith Medal so well done Kate! The Corstorphine Salver for the best bronze net score was won by Sheila Hunter. Well done also to Noreen Fenton won the scratch in the Allen Plate and to Joanne Watt was fourth overall in the Patrick Rosebowl and third in the Wee Cup.  Sadly, no East Vets pairings featured in the prizelist for the Greensomes over Landsowne; the Beddows Quaichs were won by Janet Henderson and Claire Currin (North) and the Tony Moffat Memorial Trophy by Gillian Wallace and Mary Hope (Midlands)

At the SVLGA AGM, Gillian Kirkwood, who had been standing  in for the injured Sally Coster (best wishes to Sally from in East Vets for a full and speedy recovery), was confirmed as the new  SVLGA President with Emma Wilson (Midlands) voted in as Vice President.  Noreen Fenton continues as Scottish Vets Captain.  Your smiling new President from East Vets is pictured below
